Propaganda in the 21st Century
Welcome
to my blog, 'Propaganda in the Twenty First Century'. Most people assume that
propaganda has become less common since the second world war; they couldn’t
possibly be more wrong. In writing this blog, I aim to explore the nature and
mechanisms of propaganda in the information age. Propaganda techniques have
changed vastly since the days of the red scare, with more subtle techniques
proving to be more effective than the in-your-face nature of propaganda in the
early twentieth century. If old propaganda were a gorilla beating its chest in
an attempt to intimidate, new propaganda could be likened to an invisible, odorless,
yet deadly poison gas. I aim to explore propaganda in liberal democracies like the
U.S and Australia as well as propaganda in authoritarian states like China and Saudi
Arabia. I will also be speculating about the future of propaganda, and the
potential consequences of propaganda becoming too effective.
